Most of your essential will be good for up to 3 years if stored properly. They need to be kept cool, and the lid should always be tightly sealed. There are some oils that are good for 10 years or more, such as patchouli. You can also keep the Essential Oil in refrigerator but only if the bottle is air tight. If smell of Essential Oil gets weaker, or the oil has gone cloudy or viscous, think that the shelf life has matured.
The name “ESSENTIAL OILS” is a misnomer; professionals address this class of oils as “VOLATILE OILS”. Here the name “VOLATILE” refers to the characteristic nature possessed by the oil, which means that such oils can easily evaporate.
